Muhammad (SAS) is an Arabic word and name, its meaning is praiseworthy. Full name of Muhammad (SAS) is Abul Quasim Muhammad (SAS) Ibn Abdullah Ibn Abdul Muttalib Ibn Hashim. Muhammad’s (SAS) grandfather, Abdul Muttalib was Mutawalli (Caretaker) of Ka’aba. Muhammad (SAS) was born in 570 CE in Macca, Hejaj, Arabia, present day Saudi Arabia. His Mother’s name was Hz. Aamina (RZ), his nickname was Abul Quasim, also recognized as Rassul and Prophet. His ethnicity was Arab, his father died six month before his birth, when Muhammad (SAS) was in his mother’s womb. Hz. Halima (RZ) was appointed to breastfeed child Muhammad (SAS) when Muhammad (SAS) was six years old, his mother died and Muhammad (SAS) became orphan in his childhood at the age of six year. He was raised under the care of his grandfather Abdul Muttalib. Abdul Muttalib died when Muhammad (SAS) was eight years old, at that time Muhammad (SAS) was handed over to his uncle Abu Talib for his further care on recommendation of Abdul Muttalib. Abu Talib treated well him as if he was his father. In the childhood Muhammad (SAS) was free from all bad habits.
When Muhammad (SAS) was 13 years old he went to Syria with his uncle for business purpose. After reaching Basra in Syria Christian monk named Bahira Rahib met Muhammad (SAS), he foreseen the signs of Prophet Hood in Muhammad (SAS). Then this sign of Prophet Hood was informed to the peoples of their community by the Christian monk (Rahib). Then second time Muhammad (SAS) happened to go to Syria again with business purpose, but this time he went along with Ummul Mominin Hz. Khatijatul Kubra (RZ) and her servant Maisarah. The Christian monk (Rahib) whose name was Mastura, met Muhammad (SAS) in Syria. He recognized and foreseen this time also the signs of Prophet Hood in Muhammad (SAS) after having discussion with him. And this was told to Maisarah by them. On returning back to Macca, Maisarah told everything to Hz. Khatijatul Kubra (RZ) about Muhammad’s (SAS) sign of Prophet Hood which was told to him by the Christian monk in Syria. Hz. Khatijatul Kubra (RZ) expressed her desire to marry with Muhammad (SAS) and at the age of 25 years Muhammad (SAS) consented to marry with Hz. Khatijatul Kubra (RZ) by recommendation of Abu Talib and Hz. Hamja (RZ). Hz. Khatijatul Kubra (RZ) was in her 40 years at that time.
When Muhammad (SAS) was at the age of 35 years, the Quraysh tribes started reconstruction, repair and development of Ka’aba. When the time came to put Hazr E Aswad (Blackstone) in the constructing wall then everybody started quarrelling each other. Everybody desired to lift the stone and put it in the wall with his hand. All of them thought over issue and unanimously it was decided that whoever will come first in Ka’aba he would be appointed as a judge in deciding the quarrel. Meanwhile surprisingly Prophet Muhammad (SAS) came. People told he is Amin and he will do justice. Muhammad (SAS) decided the matter, he took a piece of cloth, told the people to hold it by all sides by all the peoples, he put Hazar E Aswad in that cloth, the stone was carried to place of construction by all peoples, so that everybody would have equal opportunity of lifting stone and nobody would be superior or inferior over on another, and Muhammad (SAS) himself put with his own hand, the stone at the place of construction in the wall.
After this event Muhammad (SAS) began hard worship with full purity in his behavior and thought. A great understanding, ideology, bearing capacity was in Muhammad (SAS). Muhammad (SAS) was interested in worship (Ibadat) since his youth. He would go to cave of Hira for several days and nights with his tiffin from Hz. Khatizatul Kubra (RZ) and engaged himself in hard worship in the cave. Now people would call him Amin or Honest. Muhammad (SAS) was a merchant till the age of forty years.
During the days of Ibadat in cave of Hira when he continued his worship with hardship before first revelation he started seeing true dreams and his name and fame spread and discussed among the religious persons and astrologers. He used to live in Hira for many days and nights continuously till he was visited by Angel Gibrail and Allah revealed upon him first revelation at the age of forty years.
During first revelation upon Muhammad (SAS) an Angel came in the form of a man and would talk with Muhammad (SAS). Sometimes the revelation was downloaded (Alqa) on Muhammad’s (SAS) heart. Sometimes the revelation came by ringing sound. In the last type of revelation Muhammad (SAS) would suffer hardship; he would perspire even in the heavy cold winter. The first revelation (Wahi) which came was…
After revelation of first verse Prophet Muhammad (SAS) told about the event to the relatives, the wise men identified that it was the Angel Gibrail who brought the revelation to Muhammad (SAS) and it was like a revelation upon Musa (AS). Hz. Khatizatul Kubra (RZ) believed on Muhammad (SAS) and she accepted Prophet Hood (Nabuwat) of Muhammad (SAS) for the first time. Christian Brother of Hz. Khatizatul Kubra (RZ) supported and consoled Muhammad (SAS).
Gibrail came and taught Muhammad (SAS) the steps and procedure of offering Salah and from this time Salah was made compulsory. Prophet Muhammad (SAS) started preaching Islam to his nearest relatives and told that Allah is only worthy to worship and to surrender completely to will of Allah is only the way of life and Deen (Religion) listening to call, uncle Abu Talib rejected to accept the new religion of Islam but being uncle promised, he will not oppose him. After Hz. Khatizatul Kubra (RZ), Hz. Abu Bakr (RZ), Hz. Zaid bin Harsa (RZ), Hz. Bilal (RZ), Hz. Umar bin Ambsa (RZ), Hz. Salma (RZ), Hz. Khalid bin Sayed (RZ) became Muslim. Many other tribes of Quraysh also became Muslims in the hand of Hz. Abu Bakr (RZ).
Then Prophet Muhammad (SAS) gathered around him many peoples including youths, olds, women and children. It formed a small community. They would offer their Salah in the houses and in the field and mountains due to fear of the opponents. But after three years of Prophet Hood (Nabuwat) Allah gave order to Prophet to preach and call to other general people towards Islam. He started calling general peoples. He called to Quraysh to accept his Prophet Hood and follow the orders of Allah which are revealed upon him, Quraysh rejected to follow. Muhammad (SAS) started Tablig to all people and would tell about the helpless Deitya (Mabud) of Mushriks that they don’t have ability in their hand to do good or bad of the people against will of Allah. The Mushriks of Macca could not bear and digest this Propaganda made by Muhammad (SAS). They gathered and decided to stop the propaganda of Muhammad (SAS). They went to Abu Talib and complained about Muhammad (SAS) about their Mabuds insult made by Muhammad (SAS). Abu Talib called Muhammad (SAS) and tried to give him some understanding. Quraysh told that they would give Muhammad (SAS) everything he demanded if he leaves the thought of Islam and abandon criticizing their Mabuds. But on listening to Quraysh and Abu Talib Muhammad (SAS) replied that he would not stop preaching Islam unless an order comes to him from Allah to do so, and he will preach Islam till He is alive.
By the time the Islam went on spreading and number of new Muslims increased. In Macca it formed some more large community. Looking to this development Mushriks of Macca and Banu Hashim, Banu Muttalib and Quraysh and all collectively started harassing Muslims. They would disturb the Muslims while saying their Salah, they would throw on them the dust of camel and goat and other dirty things. When this harassment increased to high level then Prophet Muhammad (SAS) asked to new Muslim for migration towards Habsha (Abbisinia). So some people like Hz. Usman bin Affan (RZ), his wife Rukayya bint Muhammad (SAS), Abu Hujaifa (RZ) and his wife, Zubair bin Awam (RZ), Musab bin Umar (RZ), Abu Sahara bin Masud (RZ), Amir and his wife laila (RZ) and Suhail (RZ) and alike many other along with Jafar bin abi Talib, total migrant become three hundred, all of above migrated to Habsha before major migration to Madina.
Whoever would come to Macca to see Muhammad (SAS) the Quraysh would say bad things about Muhammad (SAS). They would say that Muhammad (SAS) is not good person and upon him is the effect of magic and would try to prevent the people from going to Muhammad (SAS) and meeting him. The Quraysh would laugh at Muhammad (SAS) and play mischief with him.
Once Prophet Muhammad (SAS) went to Tayaf for Tablig, he went to leader of Tayaf, invited him to accept Islam and help Islam. He rejected him openly and also tried to harass Muhammad (SAS). The leader of Tayaf sent some children behind Muhammad (SAS) to pelt stone on him and clap behind him. That night Muhammad (SAS) slept in the field and came back to Macca next day. Nobody helps Muhammad (SAS) after returning to Macca. Lastly he lived in the house of Muta’im bin Adi. In Macca Tufail bin Amru accepted Islam. Muhammad (SAS) called people towards Islam, and then some of the people in Macca accepted Islam. After this, Muhammad (SAS) performed the journey of Heaven and Hell (Meraj). In one night, he went from Macca to Baitul Muqaddas and from there he went to meet the Holy Prophets.
last sermon
(Khutbatul Wida)
The sermon was given on 9th day of Dhulhijja 10 Hijiri in Urnah velly of mount of Arafat in Macca.
After praying and thanking Allah Prophet Muhammad (SAS) said before thousands of pilgrims of Hajj…
- O people! Lend me an attentive ear, for I know not whether after this year I shall ever be amongst you again therefore listen to what I am saying to you very carefully and take these words to those who could not be present here today.
- O people! Just as you regard this month, this day, this city as sacred, so regard the life and property of every Muslim as sacred trust. Return the goods entrusted to you to their right full owners. Hurt no one so that no one may hurt you. Remember that you would indeed meet your lord and that he will indeed reckon you deeds. Allah has forbidden you to take Usury (Interest), therefore all interest obligations shall hence forth be waived. Your capital however is yours to keep. You will neither inflict nor suffer any in inequity. Allah has judge that there shall be no interest and that all interest due to Abbas Ibn Abdul Muttalib shall hence forth be waived.
- Be aware of Satan, for the safety of your religion. He has lost all his hope that he will ever be able to lead you astray in good things. So beware of following him in small things.
- O people! It is true that you have certain rights with regard to your women, but they also have rights over you. Remember that you have taken them as your wives only under Allah’s trust and with his permission. If they abide by your right then to them belongs the right to be fed and clothed in kindness.do treat your women well and be kind to them for they are your partners and committed helpers. And it is your right that they do not make friends with any one of whom you do not approve as well as never to be unchaste.
- O people! Listen to me in earnest, worship Allah, say your five daily prayers (Salah), fast during the month of Ramdhan and give your wealth in Zakat. Perform Hajj if you can afford it.
- All mankind is from Adam (AS) and Eve (AS), an Arab has no superiority over a non-Arab nor a non-Arab has any superiority over an Arab, also a white has no superiority over black nor a black has any superiority over white accept by piety and good action. Learn that every Muslim is brother to every Muslim and that Muslims constitute one brother hood. Nothing shall be legitimate to a Muslim which belongs to a fellow Muslim unless it was given freely and willingly. Do not therefore, do injustice to yourselves.
- Remember one day you will appear before Allah and answer your deeds. So beware, don’t stray from the path of righteousness after I am gone.
- O people! No Prophet or apostle will come after me and no new faith will be born. Reason well, therefore O people! And understand words which I convey to you. I leave behind me to things the Quran and My Example the Sunnah (Ahlebait) and if you follow these you will never go astray.
- All those who listen to me shall pass on my words to others and those to others again and may the last ones understand my words better than those who listen to me directly.
“O people! Have I faithfully delivered on to you my message.”
A powerful sound of response heard “O God yes” from thousands of pilgrims and vibrant“Allahumma na’am” sounded like thunder throughout velly.
Muhammad (SAS) raised his first finger toward Heaven and said…
Be my witness O Allah that I have conveyed your message to your people.
After coming back to Madina, performing Hajj and delivering the last sermon in Arafat in 632 CE. Once Muhammad (SAS) fell in he got pain and fever, he called his companions and told before them that Allah has given the right to one Banda among the peoples to select that, which is with the Allah and Banda has selected that wish is with Allah, that is Aakhirat. On listing to this all companions started weeping and water came out of the eye of all of them. Meanwhile Prophet Muhammad (SAS) told to his companion...
I give you lesson of fear of Allah and request Allah for Mercy on you and I leave you all under his care. O people! I give you the news of both fear and joy that you don’t disobey the orders of Allah and don’t use excess force in his towns. Don’t trouble his peoples. Because, Allah has told me and you that Heaven is such house that its dweller would be made to those people you will not be guilty of crimes, which would not make riots on earth because Heaven is for good people only.
On Monday Muhammad (SAS) told O people! Remember I have made those things Halal or Haram to which Allah (Quran) has made Halal or Haram and nothing other than that I have made Halal or Haram. Then he came to Hujra of Hz. Ayesha (RZ) and it was her turn. In her Hujra Muhammad’s (SAS) sole left his body on 12 Rabbiul Awwal, 11 Hijiri, on Monday, at the age of 63 years that is 8 June 632 CE, He is buried in a Tomb under green Dome of Al Masjidul Nabwi in Madina, Hejaz, present day Saudi Arabia.
“Inna li Allahi wa Inna ilai hi rajiuna.”
